This is a personal site run by Peter Laliberte. It publishes lessons on various topics.
The short version: reading this site is anonymous. There are no accounts, no sign-up, no newsletter, no comments, no analytics, and no advertising, and no cookies are set for you. See the Cookie Policy for the two exceptions, neither of which belongs to this site. The one time the site holds anything about you is when you choose to write to it.
What the site collects from readers
Nothing, unless you use the contact form. No cookies are set for readers and no tracking or analytics code runs on any page. The site does not build a profile of you, and there is nothing for it to sell or share.
If you use the contact form
The contact form is the only place the site asks you for anything, and it only asks because a reply needs somewhere to go. It records the name, email address, subject and message you type, along with the time you sent it.
Your address is used to reply and for nothing else: it is never published, sold, shared, or added to any mailing list.
What the hosting layer sees
Any website is delivered by computers, and those computers see the requests they answer. Two are involved here:
- Cloudflare sits in front of the site, providing encryption and protection against attacks. Delivering a page means Cloudflare briefly handles your IP address and the request itself, and it may set its own security cookie to tell real visitors from automated traffic. This is Cloudflare's processing, under Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- The web server keeps ordinary short-term logs of requests, which is how any server reports its own errors. These are not reviewed to identify readers and are not combined with anything else.
Embedded video
A lesson may embed a video. Videos are embedded through YouTube's no-cookie domain, which means YouTube does not set tracking cookies unless you actually press play. Once you play a video, you are interacting with YouTube, and Google's privacy policy applies to that.
Links to other sites
Lessons that link to outside pages, such as documentation for external software. Those sites have their own policies, and this one does not govern them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date at the top. Nobody is notified, because there is no mailing list to notify.
